# Colorado Wedding DJs: Costs, Altitude and Questions to Ask

**By VowsLink Team** · 2026-07-31

A good DJ shapes the last four hours of your wedding more than any other vendor. In Colorado, they also solve problems that flat-land DJs never face.

## What it costs

Front Range wedding DJs typically charge **$1,100–$2,400** for a standard reception: 5–6 hours, ceremony audio, cocktail hour and MC duties. Mountain venues in Vail, Breckenridge or Telluride add travel and often a lodging night, pushing packages to **$2,000–$3,500**. Uplighting, dance-floor lighting and a separate ceremony system are usually quoted on top.

## What should be in the contract

Ceremony sound is frequently separate from reception audio — confirm it explicitly. Same for a lapel mic for the officiant, a backup speaker and who handles announcements. „DJ" and „MC" are different skills; if you want the evening paced well, ask who is speaking and hear them do it.

## Mountain logistics

Ask about power at outdoor sites — many mountain venues have limited circuits, and a DJ who has worked there will tell you before it becomes a problem. Ask about load-in access if the ceremony site needs a shuttle or a hike. And ask about the hard cutoff: many Colorado mountain towns enforce a 10 p.m. music curfew, which changes the whole reception timeline.

## Questions that predict a full dance floor

How do you respond when the floor empties after dinner? Do you take guest requests, and how do you screen them? Can we provide a do-not-play list? Will you attend the walkthrough? How do you handle the dinner-to-dancing transition?
