Massachusetts offers three genuinely different weddings inside one small state, and the price gap between them is significant.
The three markets
- Boston and Greater Boston — historic ballrooms, waterfront hotels, museum spaces. Venue fees commonly $6,000–$18,000, with catering minimums doing much of the work. Parking and load-in rules matter here.
- Cape Cod and the Islands — seaside clubs, inns and tented estates, typically $5,000–$15,000 for the space. Summer Saturdays are the most contested dates in the state, and ferry logistics shape everything on the islands.
- The Berkshires and western Massachusetts — barns, estates and mountain inns from $3,000–$8,000, with autumn foliage the peak draw.
Season and booking
June through October carries the overwhelming majority of weddings. Coastal venues book summer Saturdays 14–18 months out; Berkshires foliage dates go equally fast for October. Off-season here is a legitimate strategy — a January Boston wedding in a historic ballroom looks spectacular and negotiates hard.
What to verify
Weather backup and whether triggering it costs extra. Hours of access including vendor load-in. Noise ordinances and hard end times, which are strict in many coastal towns. Guest accommodation supply — Cape and island weddings can run out of rooms quickly during summer.
