Pennsylvania rewards couples who decide on a setting before touring, because its three markets have almost nothing in common except the state line.
Venue pricing by region
- Philadelphia — historic buildings, industrial lofts, hotel ballrooms. Venue fees commonly $5,000–$14,000; most require approved or in-house catering.
- Lancaster and the farm belt — barns, estates and converted mills, typically $2,500–$7,000 and frequently open-vendor, which gives you leverage elsewhere in the budget.
- The Poconos and mountain resorts — all-inclusive packages that simplify planning, generally $10,000–$28,000 including catering and often guest lodging.
Seasonality
September and October are peak statewide — foliage plus stable weather — and prime Saturdays go 14–18 months ahead. Spring carries real rain risk; winter dates negotiate well but need a guest-travel plan, particularly for mountain venues.
Questions that matter
What exactly is included: tables, chairs, linens, setup, teardown? How many hours of access, including vendor load-in? Is there an in-house catering or bar requirement, and at what markup? What is the weather backup, and does using it cost extra? For historic buildings: what décor is prohibited, and is there a hard end time?
