Virginia packs an unusual range into one state: Blue Ridge mountain views, a mature vineyard scene, colonial estates and coastal properties, all within a few hours of each other.
Venue pricing by type
- Vineyards — Charlottesville, Loudoun and the Shenandoah corridor. Typically $4,000–$10,000 for the space; many require in-house wine service, which belongs in your budget math.
- Historic estates and manor houses — $5,000–$15,000, often with tight rules on décor, candles and end times because of the buildings' age.
- Barns and farms — $2,000–$6,000, usually open-vendor, which gives you leverage on catering and rentals.
- Northern Virginia hotels and clubs — priced closer to the DC market, with catering minimums doing most of the work.
Season matters more than usual
October is the single most competitive month in Virginia — foliage plus reliable weather. Book 14–18 months out for a fall Saturday. Spring is lovely but carries genuine rain risk, and August humidity is a real consideration for outdoor ceremonies and for guests in formalwear.
Questions before signing
Is there an in-house alcohol requirement, and at what markup? What is included — tables, chairs, linens, setup? How many hours of access, including vendor load-in? What is the weather backup, and does using it cost extra? Are there noise ordinances or hard end times? For estates: what décor is prohibited?
